Dental Fillings Dryden

Dental fillings are used to restore teeth that have been affected by decay, fractures, or wear. A filling replaces the portion of the tooth that has been lost, helping to restore its normal function and shape.

Advancements in dental materials allow fillings to be both durable and aesthetically pleasing. Tooth-coloured (composite) fillings are designed to blend with your natural tooth structure, helping to maintain a natural appearance.

Tooth-Coloured Composite Restorations

Composite fillings are a mercury-free restorative option that can be closely matched to the shade of your natural teeth.

These restorations:

  • Can be bonded directly to the tooth surface
  • Often require less removal of natural tooth structure compared to traditional metal fillings
  • Are designed to integrate smoothly with the surrounding enamel

During the procedure, the dentist will remove any remaining decay and shape the area to prepare it for the filling. The composite resin is then placed in layers and hardened using a curing light. Finally, the restoration is shaped and polished to achieve a natural contour.

In situations where a cavity or fracture is too large to be restored with a regular filling, the dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay (sometimes referred to as a partial crown). These restorations are fabricated in a dental laboratory from an impression of your tooth and are placed at a subsequent appointment.

Over time, fillings may wear down, chip, or develop small cracks due to normal function. During your regular dental examinations, your dentist will check the condition of your restorations and recommend repair or replacement if necessary.
